A rose is a rose for Hildegard Knef
Roses, proud and dignified flowers of lovers, symbol for romance, coming from the wild gardens of Turkey and Marocco have ever since inspired artists and above all the only German international Star and Diva Hildegard Knef.
Her chanson "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen" ("For me it shall rain red roses") has made Hildegard Knef unforgottable for many generations to come.
The artist Mister Ministeck was comissioned to create a "Hildegard Knef Memorial bear" in order to manifest a statue for the ever glamorous and mesmerizing German superstar who has died in February 2002. Mister Ministeck creates plastic mosaics with "Ministeck" - a children's plastic puzzle, where plastic pins are pushed into a grid in order to form a picture.
The "Hildegard Knef Memorial bear" was supposed to become one of the many charming plastic bears which are each created by international artists and spread throughout Berlin. The designated place of the Memorial bear was the German "Bundestag", seat of the German MPs, but was in the end put in the lobby of a "Business Art Hotel" in a remote town in the South of Germany. A symbolic and typical gesture regarding the treatment of the last German diva.
The lady with the full eye make-up and a voice which comes straight out of a grater was a woman of many talents: not only was she the only actress from Postwar Germany who has set foot in Hollywood and appeared as the first nude on the big screen, but also was she a painter, songwriter, singer and author of two world wide biographical bestsellers. She had her biggest success with the above mentioned chanson "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen".
It is thererfore not surprising that Mr. Ministeck has chosen roses besides the portrait of Hildegard Knef as the motiv for the memorial bear. The rose which made the star immortal will postmortum honour her square and expressive face.
The adoption of plants
And Mr. Ministeck has found another perfect place to set up Knef's roses: the botanical garden in Berlin. Since the lovely institution is facing financial problems and is threatened by its closure the colleauges of the Botanical garden have come up with an interim solution:
Plants can be adopted for a respectful, but not painful money donation.
Mister Ministeck is about to adopt the roses of the Botanical Garden, which stands with its glass house from the Twenties for the glory of the old Berlin days.
Just like Hildegard Knef does.
